Women's Soccer Tops UW-Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Two goals in each half put the DePaul women’s soccer team over Wisconsin-Green Bay, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.  With the win, the Blue Demons even their record at 1-1 while the Phoenix dropped to 0-2.

Julianne Sitch scored the first of her two goals in the 20th minute off a free kick from goalkeeper Lindsey Deason.  Deason, who finished the match with five saves, was credited with her first assist of the season on the play.

DePaul struck again at 32:13 when freshman Lea Hill found the net for her first collegiate goal.  Fellow rookie Kelly DeBaene found Hill with a chip over the middle to put DePaul up 2-0.

The lead remained at 2-0 until DePaul scored twice in a span of 53 seconds.  The first score saw Sitch gathered a loose ball and beat UW-Green Bay keeper Darci White to the back of the net.  Erin Walter scored the final goal of the day at 84:35 off an assist from Sitch.  For Walter, it was her first career goal.

“The team did a great job coming together today and getting the first win of the season,” said head coach John Wilson.  “We came out a little slow, but everyone stayed focused and stuck to the game plan.”

In the match, DePaul outshot the Phoenix, 26-16, while taking nine corner kicks compared to just one for the home team.

DePaul opens the home schedule this Friday at Wish Field.  The game with Toledo will be the second half of a doubleheader with the men’s team.  The men’s team takes on Drake at 1 p.m. with the women’s team facing Toledo at 4 p.m.
