EVANSTON, Ill. - A pair of first-half goals in the span of just over a minute was too much for the Blue Demons to overcome in Sunday afternoon's 2-1 loss at Northwestern. The defeat snapped a four-match winning streak for DePaul.
Katie Wright scored the first of her two goals at 32:54 off an assist from Nell Compernolle. Compernolle dribbled in from the left side and Wright tapped it past DePaul keeper Lindsay Deason. Just over a minute later, Wright struck again for the eventual game-winner. Her shot from outside the box lofted over Deason and bounced into the back of the net.
The Blue Demons were active in the second half and closed the lead to 2-1 on Kelly DeBaene’s first collegiate goal. She headed in a pass from Erin Walter on the left side at 81:37. The Blue Demons kept the pressure on late in the match, but the Northwestern defense didn’t give in.
DePaul outshot Northwestern, 9-8, forcing Wildcat goalkeeper Whitney Jones to make five saves. Deason finished the match with three saves.
The Blue Demons return to Wish Field next weekend for a pair of Conference
