Women's Tennis Splits Opening Weekend

CHICAGO – DePaul’s women’s tennis team split a pair of duals on the opening weekend of the dual season.
The Blue Demons fell to 34th-ranked Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor despite freshman Gergana Ganeva’s win over the 37th-ranked player in the nation at No. 2. It was the highest ranked victory for a DePaul player in head coach Mark Ardizzone’s career.
In doubles play, Ganeva and junior Marina Parashkevova posted a win over the 47th-ranked team in the nation at No. 1.
Ganeva entered the weekend ranked 27th in the Midwest Region.
Sunday’s match was very close and when Ganeva posted a come from behind victory at No. 2, it gave the Blue Demons the victory. Senior Stephanie Matko and sophomore Brenda Lueng also played well for DePaul.
