Women's Hoops Take on BK Poprad in Exhibition Finale

CHICAGO – In the upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine, junior All-American Khara Smith and the DePaul women’s basketball program are featured in the college basketball preview. The college hoops preview titled “Home Cookin’” features Smith and the Blue Demons in an article titled “Deep Dish” by ESPN The Magazine writer Lindsay Berra.
The DePaul women’s basketball team, ranked No. 20 in both the preseason Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches’ polls, plays their final exhibition game against BK Poprad of Slovakia on Saturday evening at the DePaul Athletic Center. As part of a doubleheader with the men’s team, the Blue Demons tip off at 5 p.m. The DePaul men take on NAIA team St. Thomas (Texas) at 7:30 p.m.
Earlier this week, Smith was one of 50 players named to the preseason candidate list for the Naismith Trophy presented by Cingular Wireless. She is also on the watch list for the Wooden Award and the Wade Trophy. Each of the awards are presented to the top player at the end of the season. Smith is one of three players from Conference USA joining, Sandora Irvin of TCU and Sancho Lyttle from Houston.
The regular season opens with the Moran Realty Classic, Nov. 19-20, as the Blue Demons welcome Murray State, Massachusetts and Southern California to the DePaul Athletic Center. The Blue Demons play their first six games of the season at the DePaul Athletic Center.
