Erin Walter Named Third Team ESPN Academic All-America

2004 ESPN Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team
CHICAGO - DePaul junior Erin Walter was one of 33 players named to the ESPN Academic All-America team it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Walter picked up third team honors as the first women's soccer student-athlete to earn Academic All-America recognition in the program's nine-year history. Of the 33 honorees, there were just 11 underclassmen. Earlier this season, she was named to the Academic All-District V Women's Soccer team. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
Walter finished the 2004 season with a school-record 10 assists. Her 18 points on four goals and the 10 assists were third on the team. The midfielder was also named third team All-Conference USA. In 57 career matches, Walter ranks among the top five in school history with 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists. Off the field, she carries a 3.895 grade-point average as a Management major.
Conference USA totaled four student-athletes with Academic All-America honors. Jamie Perry of Saint Louis and UAB's Briana McCarty were named to the second team while Kara Kornfeld of Saint Louis joined Walter on the third team. Kornfeld's brother John recently completed his freshman season with the DePaul men's soccer team.
The Blue Demons finished the 2004 season with a 9-9-2 record. The team set new program records with 140 points on 46 goals and 48 assists. Next season, the 10th for women's soccer at DePaul, the Blue Demons move into the BIG EAST Conference.
