Blue Demons Run Past Northwestern

CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team won their fourth straight game to open the 2004-05 season with a 118-49 decision over visiting Northwestern on Saturday. The 118 points were the most in DePaul Athletic Center history and the second-highest total in school history.
No. 19 DePaul (4-0) hit six of their first 10 shots, including three-pointers by Jenna Rubino, Charlene Smith and Jenni Dant, and took a 19-4 lead less than five minutes into the game. The Blue Demons never looked back as they shot .605 in the first half as a team and led, 58-27, at the intermission.
The Blue Demons led by as many as 69 points in the second half and closed the game with two free throws by Caprice Smith for the 118-49 final.
Dant and Khara Smith led the club with 21 points apiece while playing just 16 minutes each. Jenna Rubino notched her first career double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. The point total matched a career-high while the 14 boards were a career-best.
Caprice Smith was the fourth player in double-figures with 11 points and four rebounds. Kelly Rae Finley led Northwestern (1-3) with 14 points.
The Blue Demons broke the 100-point mark for the first time this season and have scored at least 89 points in each of their four games. DePaul is averaging 100.5 points per game.
