Blue Demons Roll Past Chicago Challengers

CHICAGO – In the first of two exhibition games, the DePaul women’s basketball team topped the Chicago Challengers, 91-74, at the DePaul Athletic Center. Jenni Dant scored a game-high 24 points while Khara Smith added a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds.
A lay-up by Kim Williams gave the Challengers an early 6-2 lead before the Blue Demons went on an 11-0 run and never looked back. Dant led the run with seven points that finished with DePaul leading, 13-6, with 14:27 left in the first half.
The lead grew to as many as 11 points before the Blue Demons ended the first half ahead, 43-39. Dant scored 20 points to lead all scorers.
DePaul opened up a 15-point lead with a 15-4 run to start the second half. Over the first seven minutes of the second period, the Blue Demons held the Challengers to just one field goal.
Jenna Rubino’s three-pointer with just over 11 minutes left in the game gave DePaul their largest lead of the game at 69-51. A jumper by Mfon Udoka brought the Challengers to within 11 points at 84-73, but they would get no closer.
Four players finished in double-figures led by Dant and Smith. Freshman Allie Quigley added 15 points while Rubino totaled 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Udoka led the Challengers with 23 points and eight rebounds while Lenae Williams added 14 points.
The Blue Demons play their final exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 13 against BK Poprad of Slovenia. Tipoff at the DePaul Athletic Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
