Erin Walter Named First Team Academic All-District

CHICAGO - DePaul junior Erin Walter was one of 11 players named to the Academic All-District V Women's Soccer team. The team is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) from District V, which encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
Walter finished the 2004 season with a school-record 10 assists. Her 18 points on four goals and the 10 assists were third on the team. The midfielder was also named third team All-Conference USA. In 57 career matches, Walter ranks among the top five in school history with 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists. Off the field, she carries a 3.895 grade-point average as a Management major.
Notre Dame and Illinois had multiple student-athletes voted to the Academic All-District V Women's Soccer First Team, with the Irish placing three on the squad and the Fighting Illini putting two sisters Christen and Natasha Karniski on the top unit. The 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-District V Women's Soccer First Team will appear on the national ballot for the Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team. That squad will be selected based upon a vote of the members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee, with the team scheduled to be announced Tuesday, Nov. 23.
The Blue Demons finished the 2004 season with a 9-9-2 record. The team set new program records with 140 points on 46 goals and 48 assists. Next season, the 10th for women's soccer at DePaul, the Blue Demons move into the BIG EAST Conference.
