CHICAGO – Draelon Burns has signed to play basketball at DePaul beginning with the 2004-05 season it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
Burns, a 6-4, 200-pound native of Milwaukee who will have four seasons of eligibility with the Blue Demons, spent his senior year at the Laurinburg Institute in Laurinburg, North Carolina where he averaged nearly 27 points per game and helped the program achieve the No. 1 spot in the national prep school polls.
Ranked as the 104th-best player in the nation by Prep Stars, Burns was a second team All-State pick as a junior at Milwaukee’s Custer High School where he averaged 17.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. In the summer prior to his senior season, Burns was the leading scorer at the Las Vegas “Big Time” AAU Tournament.
DePaul is coming off a 22-10 season that saw the Blue Demons win the Conference USA regular season title and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1989.
