DePaul Rolls Over Liberty

CHICAGO – With two goals in the first 50 seconds of the match, the DePaul women’s soccer team rolled to a 6-1 win on Sunday over visiting Liberty. Six different players scored as the Blue Demons tallied the highest single-game scoring output in school history.
Julianne Sitch started the action early as she beat the keeper just 33 seconds into the game. Kelly DeBaene started the action and found Lauren Spacht. Spacht headed the ball over to Sitch who knocked it past Liberty keeper Natalie Mayer for the first goal of the game.
The Blue Demons didn’t waste any time adding to the lead as Jennifer Dyer fired a shot off the right post from the left side to make the score 2-0. Sitch was credited with her first assist of the afternoon on Dyer’s goal with just 54 ticks off the clock.
DePaul didn’t let up and took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime. Spacht scored her first goal of the year in the 24th minute and Lea Hill tallied her third score of the season in the 36th minute. Erin Walter assisted both goals while Sitch added a helper on Spacht’s goal.
In the second half, the Blue Demons added a pair of nice goals by Kelly Lord and Caitlin Ferrell. Lord to a cross from Spacht out of the air and lined it to the back of the net at 58:57 while Ferrell tallied her first career goal at 86:30 off a cross from Shannon Kennedy.
Liberty got on the board at 64:35 when Abby Mott took advantage of a deflection as the DePaul defense was attempting to clear the ball. She gathered it and scored the lone goals for the Flames.
DePaul finished the match outshooting Liberty, 14-7. They amassed nine assists on the six goals while keepers Lindsey Deason and LaRocca combined for one save.
The Blue Demons go on the road next weekend for matches at Eastern Illinois and UW-Milwaukee.
