Blue Demons Roll in Exhibition Opener

CHICAGO – Six players in double-figures led the DePaul women’s basketball team to a 110-65 win in their first exhibition game of the season against Saint Xavier. Allie Quigley led the Blue Demons with 17 points while Caprice Smith added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
DePaul jumped out to a 57-33 lead at halftime behind a combined .500 shooting percentage from the field. Saint Xavier took a three-point advantage early in the game at 7-4 before the Blue Demons went on a 30-5 run over the next seven minutes. When the dust settled, a pair of free throws by Erin Cattell with 10:08 left in the half pushed the Blue Demon advantage to 34-12.
The Blue Demons didn’t let up in the second period as the outscored the Cougars, 53-32. A lay-up by Quigley gave DePaul a decisive 102-55 advantage with 4:31 left in the game. DePaul hit the 47-point margin two more times over the final four minutes before a free throw by Cattell finished the game at 110-65.
In addition to Quigley and Smith's totals, Cattell scored 16 points with eight boards while Jenna Rubino scored 16 points on a 6-of-10 effort from the field. Jarietta Benton went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for 11 points and Rachael Carney chipped in 10 points. As a team, the Blue Demons outrebounded the Cougars, 57-37.
DePaul closes the exhibition portion of the schedule next Saturday against the Chicago Challengers. Tipoff at the DePaul Athletic Center is set for 6 p.m. followed by the men's final exhibition game at 8 p.m.
