CHICAGO- Former DePaul men’s basketball star Quentin Richardson (1998-00) was named to the Conference USA All-Decade Team as announced by the league office today.
Richardson was twice named an All American Honorable Mention and finished his career averaging 10.2 rebounds per game which currently ties for second in the C-USA history books.
In 1999, Richardson became the first C-USA player to win both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year accolades. He was also named C-USA player of the week three times.
Cincinnati star Kenyon Martin was named C-USA player of the Decade. Martin was named the 1999-00 National Player of the Year and three-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. The Men’s Basketball Coach of the Decade award was won by Cincinnati’s Bob Huggins, who has led the Bearcats to eight regular season championships and four tournament titles. Both Martin and Huggins were unanimous selections.
Joining Richardson, Martin and Huggins on the All-Decade Team were: Cincinnati’s Steve Logan (1998-02) and Danny Fortson (1995-97); Louisville’s Reece Gains (1999-2003) and Francisco Garcia (2002-present); Marquette’s Dwayne Wade (2001-2003) and Travis Diener (2001-present); Charlotte’s DeMarco Johnson. Memphis’ Antonio Burks rounded out the All-Decade Team. Voting on the awards was done by a media panel with one representative in each of the league’s cities.
The Blue Demons and Tulane will face off at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the C-USA Tournament in Memphis. The contest can be seen live on ESPN2.
