LOVES PARK, Ill. – In their second exhibition match in three days, the DePaul women's soccer team tied Loyola-Chicago, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Wegeburg Soccer Stadium in Loves Park, Ill. It was the final tune-up for the regular-season opener next weekend in the Boiler Challenge Cup.
A corner kick by Julianne Sitch bent into the goal in the 15th minute, but it was called an own goal as a Loyola defender deflected it into the net. The score would stand at 1-0 in halftime as the Blue Demons outshot the Ramblers, 5-2.
The second half saw Loyola tie the match at 55:08 when Amy Lomas scored off an assist from Alexia Murray. Neither team was able to score again over the remainder of the game as the Ramblers totaled eight shots compared to six shots for DePaul. Each team took four corner kicks.
DePaul opens the regular season next weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. at the Boiler Challenge Cup. The Blue Demons take on Detroit in the first match on Friday before playing either host Purdue or Cal Poly on Sunday afternoon.
