ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Roy Hibbert scored 17 points and No. 17 Georgetown used an early 18-0 run Tuesday night to rout DePaul 64-44 for its fifth straight victory.
The Hoyas (15-4, 6-2 Big East) showed why they were able to defeat then-No. 1 Duke 10 days ago -- scoring balance, tough defense and strong work on the boards.
After DePaul's Cliff Clinkscales scored the game's first basket, the Hoyas took off.
The 18-0 run featured back-to-back 3-pointers by Jonathan Wallace, two other 3s from Jeff Green and Brandon Bowman and six points from Hibbert. The spurt built a 16-point lead just 6 minutes into the game.
Green added 15 for the Hoyas and Bowman had 10.
DePaul (8-11, 1-7) lost its sixth straight.
DePaul's leading scorer Sammy Mejia, who had to leave the Blue Demons' last game after injuring his ankle against Marquette, didn't start but entered the game after DePaul had already fallen into an 11-2 hole. He went scoreless in the first half and finished with five points. Draelon Burns led the Blue Demons with 12.
During Georgetown's big run, DePaul went nearly 7 minutes between baskets, frustrated by Georgetown's defense and its own poor shooting.
And the 7-foot-2 Hibbert was too much inside. He finished the first half with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and had eight rebounds to help the Hoyas dominate the boards 25-10. Bowman's 3-pointer right before the buzzer put the Hoyas ahead 34-18. DePaul shot just 28 percent in the first half.
The Blue Demons sliced the lead to 13 midway through the second but the Hoyas responded. Darrel Owens sank a 3-pointer, Green dunked in the lane, Owens hit a follow-up and Green got loose for another dunk in a 9-0 run, putting the Hoyas up 54-32.
Georgetown finished with a 38-25 rebounding edge.
DePaul travels to USF on Friday for a 5 p.m. (CST) contest that will be broadcast on www.depaulbluedemons.com.
