Women's Tennis Finishes ITA Midwest Regional

EAST LANSING, Mich.- Junior Beatrix Csordas advanced to the round of 16 in singles play as the DePaul women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regional over the weekend at the Michigan State Tennis Center.

Csordas defeated Anna Dzeva of Purdue and Tijana Koprivica of Minnesota before falling to Cosmina Cobianu of Notre Dame on Sunday.

“Beatrix has been playing well and really showed why she is one of the top players in the Midwest,” DePaul head coach Mark Ardizzone said.  “She advanced to the round of 16 for the first time at this tournament.”

Sophomore Dunja Antunovic picked up a singles victory in the main draw as she defeated Christine Bader of Michigan State before bowing out to Christian Thompson of Notre Dame in the second round.  Junior Bojana Murisic, senior Petra Rehusova, and freshman Kirsten Gambrell each earned victories in the singles qualifying bracket.

In doubles play, Antunovic and Rehusova defeated Liz Carpenter and Chelsea Nusslock of Wisconsin in the first round of the main draw before falling to Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame.

“I am very pleased that almost our whole team got to experience this tournament.  There is no stronger tournament throughout the year,” Ardizzone said.  “This kind of experience will only help us down the road.  Kirsten and Petra played really well and lost to some great players.  Dunja gutted out a tough three-set match but unfortunately lost to a great player in the next round.”

The Blue Demons return to action November 10-11 at the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana.
