PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the pairings for the 2006 BIG EAST Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships today.
The eight-team men’s tournament will take place Friday-Sunday and women’s play begins on Thursday. Both championships will be hosted by USF in Tampa, Fla.
The DePaul women’s team will enter the 12-team championship as the fourth seed and will have an opening round bye. The Blue Demons will face the winner of the St. John’s (5)-Connecticut (12) match on Friday at Noon. DePaul is also in the same bracket at Notre Dame (1), Rutgers (8) and Marquette (9).
The Blue Demon men’s team will open tournament play as the seventh seed and will face second-seeded Louisville on Friday at Noon as well. DePaul is in the same bracket at Marquette (3) and Rutgers (6).
The conference champions will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The men's national championships will be held May 12-29 with the first and second rounds being held at campus sites and the finals held at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif. The women's championship will also be held at Stanford, May 12-28. First and Second rounds for the women's tournament will also be held at campus sites.
