Women's Tennis Wins Opening Match at BIG EAST Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – DePaul opened its inaugural BIG EAST Conference women’s tennis championship with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over St. John’s on Friday at the USF Tennis Center.
The fourth-seeded Blue Demons earned the doubles point and took three of five singles matches to dispose of the fifth-seeded Red Storm.
DePaul got doubles victories at No. 1 from Beatrix Csordas and Gergana Ganeva, the nation’s 32nd-ranked doubles team, and at No. 2 from Dunja Antunovic and Anja Mihaldinec. The No. 3 match was stopped after the Blue Demon clinched the point.
DePaul was able to clinch the match with singles victories from Csordas (No. 1), Mihladinec (No. 4) and Petra Rehusova (No. 6).
The victory means DePaul will advance to the semifinals against the tournament’s top seed Notre Dame on Saturday.
