CHICAGO- DePaul women’s tennis coach Mark Ardizzone announced the 2006-07 schedule for the program’s second season as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. The schedule features conference rivals St. John’s, Connecticut, Cincinnati, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Marquette, and Notre Dame as the Blue Demons push towards the BIG EAST Conference Championships April 19-22 in Tampa, Florida.
The Blue Demons spend the fall portion of their schedule playing road tournaments, beginning Sept. 29-30 at the ITA All-American in Los Angeles. Northwestern’s Wildcat Invitational follows Oct. 6-8 in Evanston, Ill. and the Midwest Regional runs Oct. 19-24 in East Lansing, Mich. The fall schedule wraps up with the Notre Dame Invitational Nov. 10-11 in South Bend, Ind.
DePaul opens the New Year by hosting two home matches on Jan. 21, bringing Bowling Green State to the Five Seasons Racquet Club in Romeoville, Ill. and IUPUI to the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons then play at Northwestern on Jan. 24, at Indiana on Jan. 27 and at Ball State on Jan. 28.
February looks to keep DePaul busy with seven matches on the road and three at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons host Drake on the 10th, Western Michigan on the 16th and BIG EAST rival St. John’s on the 18th. The month begins with DePaul facing Middle Tennessee State in Lafayette, Ind. on the 3rd. The Blue Demons stay on the road to play at Purdue on the 4th. DePaul plays at Wisconsin on the 11th and at Iowa on the 23rd before closing the month on the 25th in Milwaukee, Wis. with a BIG EAST match against Connecticut and a non-conference match with Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The Blue Demons kick off March with a pair of road matches, playing at Ohio State on the 2nd and Illinois State on the 4th. They return to Chicago to host Wright State on the 4th, and both UIC and Bradley on the 10th. DePaul spends the 23rd-25th at the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. before it finishes the month with a BIG EAST match at Cincinnati on the 31st.
April keeps the Blue Demons on the road for the remainder of the season, beginning with a match at Butler on the 1st. Leading up to the conference tournament, DePaul closes the regular season with a string of BIG EAST matches. The Blue Demons face Seton Hall on the 7th and Syracuse on the 8th, with both matches in Syracuse, N.Y. The schedule wraps up with matches in Milwaukee against Marquette on the 13th and Notre Dame on the 14th.
DePaul finished the 2005-06 schedule with an overall record of 16-8 and a BIG EAST record of 6-2.
