Blue Demons and Chippewas Play to 1-1 Draw

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The DePaul women’s soccer team tied Central Michigan, 1-1, in an exhibition match on Friday evening at the IPFW Soccer Showcase. The exhibition match prepared the Blue Demons for their season-opening game next Friday against Northwestern.
A DePaul defensive miscue provided the Central Michigan goal in the 22nd minute. The own goal gave the Chippewas the early lead at 21:21 and held it through the first half.
Quickly after intermission, the Blue Demons tied the match on a goal by Kelly DeBaene. DeBaene found herself all alone with the goalkeeper and scored on the one-v-one just three minutes into the second half.
Central Michigan outshot DePaul, 13-12, but the Blue Demons peppered the Chippewa goal with nine shots on goal. Cara LaRocca play the 90 minutes for DePaul with four saves while Anne Decker of Central Michigan totaled eight stops.
DePaul opens the regular-season schedule next weekend with a pair of home matches at Wish Field. The Blue Demons play Northwestern on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a Sunday afternoon match against Eastern Washington. Sunday’s action is the first match of a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The DePaul men’s team takes on Loyola-Chicago following the women’s match.
