CHICAGO - The DePaul women’s soccer team plays a pair of non-conference matches this weekend starting on Friday at Wish Field against Southeast Missouri State and finishing on Sunday at Northern Illinois. The Blue Demons played a pair of road games last weekend, tying Eastern Illinois, 1-1, and falling to Drake, 1-0. DePaul takes on the Redhawks at 4 p.m. on Friday and the kickoff for Sunday’s match in DeKalb is set for 3:30 p.m.
Noting the Blue Demons: At Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Lauren Spacht passed Christy Young’s 37 points to move into second all-time... Spacht has totaled 38 points on 14 goals and 10 assists in her career... Julianne Sitch (2002-05) leads all career categories with 90 points on 32 goals and 26 assists... Kelly DeBaene’s ninth career assist moved her into a tie for fourth all-time with Jennifer Dyer and Young (1999-02)... Cara LaRocca’s 12 saves at Drake were a career best passing her previous high of 11 stops against Northwestern at the start of this season... Drake was the first opponent to blank the Blue Demons this season... Dyer scored goals in each of DePaul’s first two matches... with the two scores, she is tied for eighth all-time in DePaul with eight career goals... freshman Shannon Williams scored her first collegiate goal against Eastern Washington... Lea Hill leads the club with two assists... she is now tied for fourth in school history with nine career helpers... the 2006 season is the 11th year of women’s soccer as a varsity sport at DePaul University... starting his seventh season, head coach John Wilson returns 14 players and eight starters from a year ago... DePaul is scheduled to play 18 regular-season matches with 10 games at Wish Field in 2006... sophomore Alissa VonderHaar is the top returning scorer with eight points on four goals in 2005... Dyer is the returning assist leader after compiling four a year ago… the Blue Demons are 18-8-1 in the last three-plus seasons in matches at Wish Field.
Scouting Southeast Missouri State: The Redhawks stand at 1-1-0 entering Friday’s game... Southeast Missouri State opened the season with a 1-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock followed by a 1-0 loss to Missouri State... Megan McGrath scored the lone Redhawk goal this season with Caitlin Huber getting the assist... Casey Kraft and Alaina Lacopo are the top returning scorers from last season with 17 points each in 2005... head coach Heather Nelson is in her eighth season with the Redhawks... Southeast Missouri State is located in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Series: Friday is the first meeting between the two schools.
Checking on Northern Illinois: The Huskies open the weekend with a Friday night match at UW-Green Bay... they enter the weekend at 1-2-1 after playing to a 1-1 tie against Creighton on Monday... Karen Enockson leads the club with five points on two goals and an assist... goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock has played al 380 minutes in goal with 20 saves... head coach Marci Miller is in her second season in DeKalb. The Series: Northern Illinois leads the series, 3-1... the teams have split the last two meetings with each winner claiming victory on the road... last season saw the Huskies take a 1-0 decision at Wish Field.
Previously: Drake (Sept. 3) - Drake broke a scoreless tie with the game-winner in the 88th minute. The Bulldogs outshot the Blue Demons, 15-9, while DePaul goalkeeper Cara LaRocca finished with a dozen saves. Eastern Illinois (Sept. 1) - Lauren Spacht scored her first goal of the season to give the Blue Demons a lead 88 seconds into the match. The Panthers tied the match in the 62nd minute and neither team could find the net over the remainder of the match. DePaul outshot Eastern Illinois, 16-12, in the match. Eastern Washington (Aug. 27) - Jennifer Dyer and Shannon Williams scored first-half goals for DePaul while Cara LaRocca notched her first shutout of the season. Dyer tallied the eventual game-winner in the 32nd minute followed by Williams in the 43rd minute. The Blue Demons outshot the Eagles, 25-7, while LaRocca made five save. Northwestern (Aug. 25) - DePaul opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Wish Field. Jennifer Dyer scored in the 83rd minute while Cara LaRocca finished with a career-high 11 saves. The Blue Demons were outshot, 20-5, and Northwestern attempted 16 corner kicks.
Looking Forward: Following this weekend’s action, DePaul hosts Notre Dame on Sept. 15 to open BIG EAST play. It is followed by a non-conference game with Loyola-Chicago on Sept. 17. Both games are parts of a soccer doubleheader with the DePaul men’s program.
2006 BIG EAST Championship: The semifinals and championship of the 2006 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship will take place in Storrs, Conn., on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The first round and quarterfinals matches will be hosted by the higher-seeded team beginning on Oct. 25. The champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
