Women's Tennis Enters WMU Super Challenge

CHICAGO The DePaul women’s tennis team travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan this weekend for the Western Michigan Super Challenge. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Blue Demons compete in four singles draws and one doubles draw against talent from Indiana, Wichita State, Yale and host WMU. All four teams joining DePaul this weekend finished the 2006-07 season ranked in the FILA/ITA National Poll.
The tournament opens on Friday at 9:30 a.m. (CST) as three Blue Demon tandems enter the 16-team doubles draw. Junior Dunja Antunovic and sophomore Kirsten Gambrell take on WMU’s Yumi Matsuto and Noriko Saruta, while freshmen Selma Salkovic and Katarina Milinkovic face Indiana’s Sigrid Fischer and Lindsey Stuckey. Seniors Anja Mihaldinec and Gergana Ganeva compete against Torrie Browning and Olga Elkin of Wichita State.
Each singles draw opens on Friday at 12:30 p.m. The Gold Draw pits Antunovic against Yale’s Stevi Petrelli, while Gambrell enters the Brown Draw and faces Stuckey. The Silver Draw matches Ganeva against Matsuto and Milinkovic against Indiana’s Brianna Williams. Mihaldinec and Salkovic enter the Black Draw, where they face Elkin and Indiana’s Stephanie Heller, respectively.
Seniors Bojana Murisic and Clare Chmiel compete throughout the weekend in round-robin action. They open the tournament with a doubles match against Yale’s Lilian Nguyen and Petrelli.
Competition resumes on Saturday and the tournament concludes on Sunday with the final round of singles at 8:30 a.m.
The WMU Super Challenge marks DePaul’s final event of the fall tournament season.
