Duck and Kolacz Pace Cross Country at NCAA Midwest Regional

PEORIA, Ill. Claire Duck and Jakub Kolacz led the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams on Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. The Blue Demons placed 18th in the women’s team standings and 22nd in the men’s team standings at Newman Golf Course.
Duck posted a personal-best 6K time of 21:14 as she finished 30th in a field of 178 runners. It marked the seventh consecutive race this season that Duck set the pace for the Blue Demons.
Terah Cheatham followed Duck and placed 107th with a time of 22:33, while Stephanie Hughes took 113th place with a time of 22:40. Mary Cate Quiett crossed the finish line at 23:04 to place 131st and Reda Josifi rounded out DePaul’s top-five as she took 155th place with a time of 23:47. Maureen Kuhta finished 171st with a time of 24:45.
Kolacz paced the Blue Demons for the first time this season as he finished 75th in a field of 155 runners with a 10K time of 32:16. Nick Schaefer followed in 119th place with a personal-best time of 33:52 and Luke Rygh finished 134th with a personal-best time of 34:07. Richard Byrne crossed the finish line at 34:17 and finished 134th, while Mike Fry placed 149th and closed out DePaul’s showing with a time of 35:19.
The Minnesota women’s team placed all seven of its runners in the top 25 to win the 6K competition with a total score of 79. Oklahoma State won the men’s crown with a score of 47 as three Cowboys finished in the top 10. Iowa’s Diana Nukuri won the 6K individual title with a time of 19:37, while Trent Hoerr of Illinois won the 10K race with a time of 29:56.
Illinois placed second among 25 women’s teams, while Minnesota earned runner-up honors in a field of 23 men’s squads. DePaul combined for a score of 511 in the women’s competition and 593 in the men’s event. The top two teams from each region earned automatic berths for the Nov. 19 NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Indiana.
