Blue Demons Knock Off Huskies

CHICAGO For the second time in as many exhibition games, the DePaul women's basketball team reached the century mark with a 100-68 win over Michigan Tech on Friday night. Allie Quigley dropped in a game-high 22 points while Natasha Williams posted a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double.
The Blue Demons opened up an eight-point lead eight minutes into the action as China Threatt scored on a layup. Michigan Tech answered with seven straight points over the next 90 seconds on two jumpers and a three-pointer to cut the deficit to a point.
On DePaul's next possession, Missy Mitidiero converted a three-point play followed by a Quigley three-pointer. Those two plays started a 17-3 run that ended with a short jumper by Williams to give the Blue Demons a 41-26 lead with 6:19 left in the first half.
The Blue Demons increased the advantage to 25 points on two occasions before intermission with Erin Cattell's three-pointer giving DePaul a 60-point first half.
Michigan Tech cut the DePaul lead to 15 points on a jumper by Lisa Stahlin early in the second half, but a Deirdre Naughton three and a driving layup by Quigley quickly pushed the advantage back to 20 points.
The margin never dipped below 20 points over the final 10:55 as DePaul lead by as many as 32 points.
Quigley led all scorers with 22 points while adding eight boards and three assists. Mitidiero added 19 points and four helpers followed by Williams' 16-point, 12-rebound double-double. The junior forward went 6-for-7 from the field and also blocked a pair of Michigan Tech shots. Naughton chipped in 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
DePaul opens the 2007-08 regular season on the road at Southern Illinois. The Blue Demons and Salukis tangle at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, in Carbondale, Ill. The home schedule starts with the annual DePaul Invitational, Nov. 15-17, at McGrath Arena. Florida International and Florida State come to Chicago for the round-robin event.
Game Notes: DePaul totaled at least 100 points in both exhibition games... the Blue Demons went a combined 19-for-41 (.463) from three-point range in exhibition play... DePaul opens the regular season on the road for the second straight season.
