CHICAGO -- DePaul head volleyball coach Amy Kleyweg announced today her signing class of 2008-09. Lauren Blasi, Mattie Boyd, Molly Creek and Samantha Geiger all signed a National Letter of Intent this week and will enroll at the University in the fall of 2008.
"I am very excited about the 2008 class as we are adding great talent to each position," Kleyweg said of her signing class. "This class brings a high level of experience from successful club and high school programs and all four will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our program,"
Blasi, a 6-1 outside hitter from Fort Wayne, Indiana joins the Blue Demons after being named the MVP of her Carroll High School team. A two-time Northeast Hoosier all-conference selection, Blasi led the Chargers to sectionals in 2007.
A 5-10 outside hitter on St. Charles East High School, Boyd helped the Saints to a third place finish at this year's IHSA State Volleyball Tournament. Playing on the varsity squad all four years Boyd was a four-time, three-time unanimous Upstate Eight all-conference selection and the Daily Herald's Athlete of the Week. Following St. Charles East's first trip to the state finals since 2001, Boyd was named all-area by the Chicago Sun-Times in 2007.
Creek joins the Blue Demons from Longmont, Colorado. A 6-0 middle blocker, Creek was twice named all-conference at Peak-to-Peak Charter. A member of Colorado's most successful volleyball club the Juggernaut's, Creek helped her club to No. 13 national ranking at the AAU National Championship in 2007.
Geiger rounds out the class and is a 6-0 setter from Cave Creek, Arizona. A two-time all-conference honoree and 2007 first team all-state selection, Gieger helped her Cactus Shadows High School team to a conference championship and was runner-up at the Arizona 4A State Championships in 2007.
In just her second season at the helm of the Blue Demon program, Kleyweg's first recruiting class led DePaul to seven wins the program's most since the 2004. With four freshmen starters, middle blocker Jacie Fiedler made the biggest impact as she averaged a team-high 3.37 kills per game.
