CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams continue their season this Friday at the 28th Annual National Catholic Championship in Notre Dame, Indiana. The Blue Demons join Catholic institutions from across the nation on the Notre Dame Golf Course for a 5K women’s race at 3:15 p.m. (CST) and a five-mile men’s trek at 4 p.m.
DePaul joins more than 40 squads in a field of competition that includes BIG EAST Conference rivals Notre Dame and St. John’s in addition to regional teams such as Dayton, Detroit Mercy and Saint Louis.
The last two weeks have seen senior Claire Duck win a pair of individual titles for the Blue Demons as she led the women’s squad to a first place finish at the UIC Opener and a third place finish at the Fordham Invitational. Freshman Mary Cate Quiett followed Duck in both races as she finished third at UIC and 16th at Fordham.
DePaul’s men also opened their season by winning the team title at UIC before taking fourth place at Fordham. Sophomore Nick Schaefer paced the Blue Demons in both meets and won the men’s race at UIC.
The 2006 National Catholic Championship saw DePaul finish fourth in the men’s standings and 23rd in the women’s standings. Notre Dame claimed both team titles, while John Riak of Saint Martin’s won the men’s individual crown and Notre Dame’s Sunni Olding won the women’s race.
