Georgetown Tops DePaul

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Georgetown Hoyas opened up a 1-0 halftime lead with three second-half tallies for a 4-0 decision over DePaul on Sunday. The loss for the Blue Demons wrapped up the weekend trip following a loss at Villanova on Friday.
Georgetown, ranked No. 16 in this week’s Soccer America top 25 and No. 17 in the NSCAA Coaches poll, scored in the 19th, 48th, 56th and 77th minutes. The Hoyas took 10 shots in each half with 10 total shots on goal in the match. DePaul goalkeeper Kelsey Hoinkes made five saves in the game.
Samantha Baker scored the first goal of the game at 18:24 when she took a shot from the penalty spot after getting a pass from Caitlin Durkee. Durkee assisted three of the four Georgetown goals on the afternoon.
Following intermission, Georgetown (9-1-2, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) added a second goal at 47:41. Durkee put a serve into the box that Stephanie Zare headed to the back of the net from six yards. Kelly D’Ambrisi scored at 55:22 off an assist by Camille Trujillo and Norah Swanson rounded out the goals for the Hoyas at 76:56 off assists from Durkee and Baker.
DePaul (2-13-0, 0-7-0 BIG EAST) totaled nine shots in the 90 minutes of play with Morgan Celaya taking three attempts. Casey Mercurio and Callie Hemming each took two shots apiece.
The Blue Demons stay on the road next weekend for games at Connecticut and Providence. DePaul plays at Connecticut on Friday night before traveling to Providence for a Sunday afternoon match. The final weekend of the regular season sees Seton Hall and Rutgers visiting Wish Field the weekend of Oct. 24.
Game Notes: DePaul has been shutout three straight games for the first time this season... the Blue Demons have dropped 15 of their last 16 BIG EAST matches... Georgetown leads the series, 3-1-0.
