EVANSTON, Ill. The DePaul women’s tennis team wrapped up the Wildcat Invitational today. Despite stellar performances on day one, the second day set-backs continued onto the final day as the Blue Demons managed only three victories.
Shining for DePaul was freshman Gia McKnight, who rallied back from her first season-singles loss yesterday to claim victory over Michigan State’s Manon Noe, 6-4, 6-3. She teamed up with sophomore Selma Salkovic to win a decisive 8-1 descision over Katya Mirnova and Angela Chupa of Wisconsin 8-1.
Salkovic was the Flight C runner-up champion, after loosing to Northwestern's Stacey Lee, 6-3, 1-6 (4).
The Blue Demons third win came at the hands of Katarina Milinkovic and Anna Gustafson, who edged out the mixed-school duo of Christina Stromberg (Illinois) and Katie Potts (Notre Dame), 9-8 (2).
DePaul is off until Oct. 23, when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan to compete in the ITA Midwest Championships.
