Cheatham and Kolacz Lead at the BIG EAST Championships

NEW YORK Terah Cheatham and Jakub Kolacz paced the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams at the 2008 BIG EAST Conference Championships. The Blue Demons placed 13th in the women’s standings and 11th on the men’s side at VanCortlandt Park on Friday morning.
Cheatham led the women’s team for the second time this season as she finished 74th overall with a season-best 6K time of 22:54. Stephanie Hughes followed in 77th place with a time of 23:01, while Kelly Pickering logged a time of 23:51 for 99th place. Claire O'Brien registered her highest team finish of the season, as she was the fourth Blue Demon to cross the line for 101st place overall, at the 24:01 mark. Rounding out the top-five for DePaul was Erin Lake, who finished the course in 24:05 for 105th place.
Also competing for the Blue Demons, Kelsey Dolan recorded a personal-best 6K time of 24:07, while Reda Josifi lowered her season-best pace to 6:28/mile. Mary Cate Quiett, who until now has finished No. 1 or No. 2 for DePaul all season, battled through injury to cross the line at the 25:02 mark.
On the men’s side, Kolacz paced the Blue Demons for the second consecutive time this season. Placing 52nd, the junior finished the 8K course in 26:03. Greg Udzielak made his highest team finish of the season, placing 60th overall with a time of 26:15. Luke Rygh and Matthew Graham crossed the line together, placing 73rd and 74th, respectively. Rob Morgan wrapped up the DePaul top-five, finishing in 77th place with a time of 26:50. Brian Begalke, the only other Blue Demon to compete, placed 100th with a time of 27:57.
The No. 6 Villinova women’s squad won their 11th conference championship behind a runner-up champion performance out of senior Frances Koons. Marie Loui Asselin of West Virginia won the individual crown, logging a time of 20:10.
The men’s team from No. 10 Georgetown won its sixth BIG EAST Championship, having five of their eight runners finished in the top-10. Andrew Bumbalough led the Hoyas with an individual title, recording 4:49/mile pace for a 23:55 8K time.
