CHICAGO The DePaul women’s tennis team competes this weekend at Northwestern’s Wildcat Invitational. The three-day tournament runs Friday through Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois.
The Blue Demons join a field of competition that includes Akron, Louisiana State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Northwestern. The bracket-style tournament consists of four singles fights and two doubles flights.
The first tournament of the season produced 15 singles victories and seven doubles wins, in addition to two singles flight champions. Freshman Gia McKnight went 4-0 to take the Gold Flight crown at Western Michigan’s Bronco Invitational. Winning the Brown Flight was junior Sandra Zmak.
Joining the Blue Demons for the first time this season is Senior Dunja Antunovic. During week one of competition, she competed at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Last year, Antunovic held down the No. 1 singles spot with an overall record of 21-15, as well as earn BIG EAST Conference All-Tournament honors.
The Wildcat Invitational is DePaul’s last tournament before the ITA Midwest Regional Championships to be held in East Lansing, Michigan on Oct. 19-23.
