Blue Demons Win in Overtime at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio Jenna Fagerman tied the match in the 87th minute and Morgan Celaya scored the deciding goal in the 96th minute as DePaul came from behind to defeat Miami, 3-2, in overtime. The win was the second straight for the Blue Demons as they scored three goals for the second time in as many matches.
Miami’s Brooke Livingston scored the first goal of the afternoon at 9:40 on a header to give the RedHawks the early advantage before Sara Lund converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute for a 2-0 lead for the home side.
DePaul (2-5-0) didn’t back down as Michelle Scandora cut the lead in half just before intermission. Following a Miami foul, Scandora found the back of the net on the ensuing free kick in the 44th minute.
The score remained at 2-1 until Fagerman came through with her second goal of the season to tie the score at 86:05. The sophomore chipped a shot over the charging Miami goalkeeper to send the match into overtime.
In the extra frame, Callie Hemming put a serve on the RedHawks net and Celaya was there to head it home at 95:48 for the DePaul victory.
Kelsey Hoinkes finished the afternoon with 10 saves while facing 23 shots from Miami (1-3-0). DePaul totaled 14 shots in the match and took three corner kicks. The 10 stops for Hoinkes matched a career high for the sophomore.
DePaul concludes the weekend on the road Sunday at Northwestern. Kickoff in Evanston is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Game Notes: Kelsey Hoinkes’ 10 saves matched her career high... she also recorded 10 stops against Syracuse and Connecticut last season... seven different players have scored at least one goal this season for the Blue Demons... DePaul’s six goals in the last two games are the most in back-to-back games since totaling seven in games against IPFW and at Cincinnati in Sept. 2007... the three goals in back-to-back games mark the first time since Sept. 2006 with two straight games of at least three goals in each game... DePaul scored three in two consecutive wins over Southeast Missouri and Northern Illinois... Friday was the first meeting between the two programs.
