CHICAGO DePaul women’s tennis coach Mark Ardizzone announced the program’s 2008-09 schedule today. The Blue Demons compete in five tournaments before taking on a dual schedule that includes BIG EAST Conference rivals Connecticut, St. John’s, Notre Dame, Marquette, and Cincinnati.
DePaul opens its campaign by traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Bronco Invitational on Sept. 26-28. The tournament includes Eastern Michigan, Purdue, Indiana State, and fellow BIG EAST rival Marquette. DePaul then competes at Northwestern’s Wildcat Invitational, Oct. 10-12, in Evanston Ill. and at the ITA Midwest Regional, Oct. 23-28, in East Lansing, Mich. The Blue Demons close out the fall schedule on Nov. 7-9 in Bloomington, Ind. at the Hoosier Invitational where they face Indiana, Wisconsin, and Texas A&M.
DePaul returns to Evanston Jan. 16-18 for the Northwestern Invitational before opening the dual schedule against Wisconsin on Jan. 24 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The Blue Demons wrap up the month in Chicago with dual matches against Cleveland State and the University of Chicago on the 25th. The Cleveland State match will be played at Lakeshore Athletic Club in Lincoln Park, while the second takes place in Hyde Park.
DePaul travels to Los Angeles for the National Indoor Qualifier hosted by UCLA on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The team returns home to compete against Saint Louis on Feb. 6 before tackling a six dual road trip that includes matches against Butler, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, conference rival Connecticut, and Western Michigan.
The Blue Demons return home March 6-7, hosting Illinois State, Drake, and Western Illinois at the Lakeshore Athletic Club, before traveling to Dallas, Texas to face Southern Methodist University on March 25.
March 29 kicks off a three-match home series against fellow BIG EAST opponents St. John’s, Notre Dame, and Marquette. The home season comes to a close on April 10 as DePaul plays host to Northern Illinois. The Blue Demons conclude their regular season on the road facing conference opponent Cincinnati on April 11.
The 2009 BIG EAST Championships run April 16-29 in Tampa, Fla. on the USF campus. DePaul finished fourth at the 2008 BIG EAST Championships while returning senior Dunja Antunovic made the All-Conference team.
