Gambrell Advances in the Midwest Regional Qualifying Bracket

EVANSTON, Ill. - Kirsten Gambrell and Cali Gustafson represented DePaul in the qualifying brackets of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship on Thursday at Northwestern's Combe Tennis Center. Qualifying brackets finish Friday morning while the doubles main draw begins in the afternoon.
Gambrell was successful in both her qualifying matches. The Blue Demon senior topped Natalia Lech from Illinois State 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Gambrell took her second match to three sets and was again victorious. She earned a 6-0, 6-7 (8), 6-1 match win over Catrine Bjerrehus from Cleveland State.
Gambrell tangles with Prang Pantusart from Akron at 9 a.m. on Friday. The winner advances to the main singles draw on Saturday. This season, Gambrell is 6-2 in singles play and has won her last four matches.
DePaul sophomore, Gustafson received a first round bye, but fell to Michigan's Kari Wig 7-5, 6-3.
Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic begin the doubles bracket with a 2 p.m. match with Michigan State's Amy Barton and Whitney Wilson. The winner advances and takes on the top-seeded Notre Dame pair of Kristy Frilling and Kali Krisik Friday evening.
Gambrell and Gustafuson team up for a doubles match with Illinois' Megan Fudge and Breanne Smutko while the No. 31 doubles pair of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic received a first round bye and will play IPFW's Amy Recht and Katie Brie.
