CHICAGO - Callie Hemming made history with her golden goal last Friday in DePaul's 2-1 victory over then-No. 22 Georgetown at Wish Field.
It propelled the Blue Demons into the BIG EAST Championships for the first time since joining the powerhouse soccer conference five seasons ago.
That watershed moment was not lost on the national women's soccer landscape as CollegeSoccer360.com on Monday named Hemming as one of its Primetime Performers of the Week.
Teammate Tara Strickland had put the Blue Demons ahead 1-0 with a direct free-kick goal from 25 yards out 53 minutes, four seconds into the match.
Catherine Cabot knotted it at 1-1 with a header at 57:23. Hemming came through at 104:30 with her only shot of the game as the junior midfielder deflected in a Strickland free kick. It was Hemming's second goal of the season.
The upset of Georgetown was called "our best game in the last three years," by DePaul coach Erin Chastain.
DePaul finished the regular season with a record of 10-8-2, 5-6-0 in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons travel to Tampa for the first round to face USF (8-7-3, 5-4-2) on Thursday.
