Antunovic Wins Doubles Title at Palic Open

CHICAGO - Former DePaul standout and current graduate assistant women's tennis coach Dunja Antunovic and No. 4 (ITA) Ani Mijacika took the doubles title at the Palic Open in Palic, Serbia last week. The duo defeated the top-seeded doubles pair of Martinia Babakova and Iveta Gerlova on the way to their championship title.
Antunovic, playing in her hometown, and Mijacika were the only amateurs in tournament that was sponsored by Tennis Europe which is comprised of 49 European member nations and is the largest regional association of the sport's governing body, the International Tennis Federation.
The pair opened the tournament by defeating the No. 1 seed Babakova and Gerlova 6-2, 3-6 [10-5]. The duo then advanced to the championship match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bernadetta Birkas and Aleksandra Tucakov.
Antunovic and Mijacika collected the Palic Championship Vases with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Katarzyna Kawa and Simonka Parajova.
Antunovic, who ended her career at DePaul in 2009, collected 90 double's victories while she was named an all-conference performer in three of her four seasons she wore a Blue Demon uniform.
