Redecsi and Salkovic Advance to Doubles Championship

HOUSTON - DePaul's doubles pair of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic advanced to the Championship of the first doubles flight with back-to-back wins at the Rice Tennis Classic in the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Friday.
Redecsi and Salkovic entered the tournament ranked No 31 in the country. The tandem defeated Mary Pier Huet and Maria Kalasnikova from Oklahoma, 8-5 in the opening match of the first doubles flight and topped Rebekka Hanle and Becca Lin from Rice, 8-4 to reach the Championship. The Blue Demon pair will face the No. 13 ranked doubles pair of Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova on Saturday afternoon for the Championship.
DePaul's other two doubles pairs will play for third place after each winning their respective first round match but dropped the second match. Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic won their first match 8-4, but were on the opposite end of an 8-4 score in the semifinals to send the pair to the consolation match.
Kirsten Gambrell and Sandra Zmak won their first match 8-2, but fell in the second round 8-3.
In singles action, Milinkovic won her third-flight match against Liz Hamlin from Tulane 6-0, 6-3. Playing in the fourth flight Salkovic used three sets to top Abi Lui from Texas 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 while Zmak topped Sophie Quist from SMU 6-3, 6-1 in the fifth flight.
Redecsi, McKnight, Gambrell and Cali Gustafson were unsuccessful in their first round matches and fall into the consolation side of their respective singles brackets.
Doubles actions concludes on Saturday with Championship play scheduled for the afternoon, while singles play concludes on Sunday.
