1/17/2010 12:00:00 AM | MEN'S BASKETBALL
The first 12 minutes went back-and-forth with Eric Wallace pulling the Blue Demons to within two at 15-13. St. John's (12-5, 2-3 BIG EAST) answered with a Sean Evans jumper on its next possession before Wallace hit an eight-footer to make the score 17-15 with 7:23 left until intermission.
Wallace's bucket would be the last score for DePaul until Mike Stovall hit a three-pointer with 2:29 on the clock. In the meantime, St. John's scored 10 straight points to build a lead they would never relinquish the rest of the afternoon.
The Red Storm took a 31-20 advantage at the end of the first half and started the second stanza with a 22-4 run. A lay-up by Anthony Mason, Jr. capped the run with St. John's leading, 53-24, midway through the second half.
Will Walker led the Blue Demons with 14 points while Mike Stovall added 11. Wallace finished with six points and nine rebounds and Tony Freeland chipped in six points and three boards.
DePaul (7-10, 0-5 BIG EAST) returns to Allstate Arena on Wednesday night to face the Marquette Golden Eagles. Tip time in Rosemont is scheduled for 8 p.m. as the two sides meet for the 108th time.
