
DePaul Continues BIG EAST Play

WASHINGTON- The DePaul volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23) to Georgetown Friday night. The Blue Demons fall to 1-15, 0-3 BIG EAST and Georgetown improves to 12-7, 2-1 BIG EAST.
After DePaul and Georgetown traded the first four points of the first set, Georgetown went on a 9-4 run that was sparked by a service ace from Samantha Trauth. The Blue Demons were forced to use their first timeout. DePaul came out of the timeout focused and was able to capitalize on Kills from Rachel Aumann and Anastasiya Shutava to bring them within three, 8-11. The Hoyas however countered with three quick points and used a .250 (15-6-36) attack percentage to win the set 25-19.
In the second set DePaul was able to use seven team kills and a .042 (7-6-24) attack percentage to slide past Georgetown. With the score tied at four DePaul went on a 12-4 run that gave them control. The Blue Demons never allowed the Hoyas to get back in to the set and went on to win it, 25-15.
The score went back and forth in the third set. With it tied at 14 Sammy Geiger was able to serve for three straight DePaul points and forced Georgetown to use a timeout. Georgetown came out of the timeout and fought back to a 19-19 tie. DePaul would then call a timeout of its own, but the Hoyas would go on a 6-2 run to close the set at 25-21.
Neither team was able to establish momentum in the beginning of the fourth set. But, with the score tied at 11, the Blue Demons went on a 9-2 run to give them their largest lead of the match. The Hoyas called a timeout and then of the timeout they countered with 12-3 run to win the set 25-23.
The Blue Demons play USF on Sunday in Tampa, Fla. At 1 p.m.
