CHICAGO - DePaul singles tennis standout, Selma Salkovic travels to the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament, Oct. 2-10. Prequalifying singles action begins on Saturday, Oct. 2 at UCLA while the main draws are scheduled to take place at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California Oct. 4-10.
"I am so excited for Selma!" DePaul head women's tennis coach Mark Ardizzone said of senior's section to the All-American Tournament.
"This is a great experience for her to play in this tournament. It is the premiere college tournament in the country and the only one besides the NCAA Tournament in which every player in the draw is really good."
Salkovic enters the weekend with a 3-1 record this season, while the senior carries an impressive 73-35 career singles record. The Blue Demon standout is scheduled to play Patricia Veresova at 3 p.m. (CST) on Saturday.
"This is the best prequalifying draw I have ever seen," Ardizzone added after looking through the bracket.
Veresova, a sophomore at Nebraska, was ranked as high as No. 529 in the world by the WTA and won both the singles and doubles Slovakian women's championships in 2009. Veresova brings a 1-1 singles record after reaching the Round of 16 at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational last weekend.
Salkovic becomes the fifth consecutive Blue Demon singles player to represent DePaul at the All-American tournament. Beatrix Csordas traveled to the All-American in 2005 and 2006, while Gergana Ganeva made the trek in both 06 and 07. Current Blue Demon assistant Dunja Antunovic also made a pair of appearance in 07 and 08.
Salkovic follows 2010 senior, Anna Redecsi, in her prequalifying singles appearance last season. The pair was also selected to the doubles draw in 2010 and registered a 1-1 record.
This season, Salkovic is ranked No. 31 with her doubles partner Gia McKnight -- the pair is 3-0 this season and reached the finals of the Oklahoma Sooner Fall Invitational A-Doubles Flight before play was suspended.
The DePaul women's tennis team returns to action next weekend at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Oct. 8-10.
