The Blue Demons Defeat SIU-Edwardsville In Four sets

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team pulled out a 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18) match win against SIU-Edwardsville at McGrath Arena on Sunday afternoon. Offensively, the Blue Demons were led by Senior Kate Letcher who registered a .400 (6-0-15) attack percentage, while Katherine Knutson led the Blue Demons defensively with 24 of the teams 74 digs.
The first set opened with the Blue Demons and the Cougars trading points to a tie at 12. From there DePaul went on a 9-3 run that was fueled by four great serves from freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick. The Blue Demons controled the first set from that point and traded points with SIU-Edwardsville to end the set 25-18.
SIU-Edwardsville took advantage of DePaul's -.027 (8-9-37) team attack percentage and closed the second set 25-20. Freshman Kirkpatrick led the Blue Demons with three kills in the set.
The Blue Demons went into the third set with more focus and forced the Cougars to have a .000 attack percentage. Letcher led the team with four kills in the set. Kirkpatrick would closed the set, with a service ace to the back left corner, 25-18.
The Blue Demons had a match high .235 (11-3-34) attack percentage in the fourth set and took advantage of the cougar's .022 team attack percentage to win the set 25-18.
The Blue Demons return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a match against Chicago State.
Notes: DePaul's won its second match of the season defeating SIU-Edwardsville... Katherine Knutson has had double digit digs in 16 matches this season...recorded 24 digs in the match against SIU-Edwardsville ... going into the weekend DePaul is currently fourth in the BIG EAST averaging 15.08 digs per set... Chelsea Thurlby had a team season high when she totaled 33 digs against Georgia State which is the second most of any BIG EAST athlete... Freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick has been in double digit kills eight times this season... Kirkpatrick led the team with 15 kills against Notre Dame and totaled 13 in the match against SIU-Edwardsville... senior Kate Letcher led the Blue Demons with 15 kills and a season high .400 (6-0-15) attack percentage.
