The Blue Demons Defeat the Cougars

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team won a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-14) nonconference match against Chicago State, Tuesday night at the Jacoby Center. The Blue Demons have won their last two matches and improve to 3-19, while the Cougars fall to 0-23.
DePaul used a season-high .366 (46-9-101) team attack percentage to claim the straight set victory. Senior Kate Letcher and sophomore Rachel Aumann led the way offensively, each with 10 kills, while Katherine Knutson provided defensive support with 14 digs.
In the first set DePaul jumped out to an early 11-4 lead that forced Chicago State to take an early timeout. The Blue Demons controlled the rest of the set with their .448 team attack percentage and won it 25-14.
The Blue Demons began the second set the same way they did the first. DePaul jumped out to an early 11-6 lead and Chicago State was forced to take and early timeout. The Cougars applied some pressure to the Blue Demons in the middle of the set and DePaul coach Nadia Edwards would use her second timeout when the score was 20-16 in favor of the Blue Demons. The Blue Demons came out of the break focused and closed the set on a 5-1 run.
With the momentum on its side, DePaul took the first two points of the set and never looked back as the team closed the match with a 25-14 win in the third set.
The Blue Demons return to the McGrath Arena for a match on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they play BIG EAST rival Marquette at 1 p.m.
Notes: DePaul's won its third match of the season and second in a row with its win over Chicago State... Katherine Knutson has recorded double-digit digs in 17 matches this season... recorded 14 digs in the match against Chicago State... freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick has been in double-digit kills eight times this season... senior Kate Letcher led the Blue Demons with 10 kills and a season-high .421 (6-0-15) attack percentage... Rachel Aumann had a season-high .444 (10-2-18) attack percentage... in the match against Chicago State DePaul had a season-high .366 (46-9-101) team attack percentage.
