
DePaul Suffers Loss to Connecticut

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team fell to Connecticut 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 28-26, 25-13, 15-8), Saturday in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath Arena. The Blue Demons fall to 4-22 and 1-9 in the BIG EAST, while the Huskies improve to 4-16 and 2-7 in conference action.
Molly Creek's .545 (6-0-11) attack percentage in the first set propelled the Blue Demons to a 25-23 win. DePaul opened the match trading points with Connecticut. When the score was 7-6, in favor of DePaul, the Blue Demons went on a 10-5 run that forced the Huskies to use a timeout. The Blue Demons and the Huskies continued to battle for every point and DePaul came out on top.
The fast pace tempo in the second set allowed DePaul to capitalize on Connecticut's poor team attack percentage of -.024 (13-14-41) to take the set 25-20. Rachel Aumann led the Blue Demons offensively with a .500 (3-0-6) attack percentage and Stephanie Rountree led the team defensively with six digs.
The Blue Demons began a 7-3 run when they were down 10-3 early in the third set to Connecticut. The run was fueled by three well placed kills from Chelsea Kirkpatrick. The Blue Demons continued to work for every point and eventually tied it at 22. The score went back and forth but the Huskies would close the set 28-26.
Connecticut quickly jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and DePaul had to take an early timeout. DePaul was unable to find its offensive rhythm in the fourth set, while Connecticut collected 14 kills and had a .235 team attack percentage. Connecticut closed the set 25-13.
The Huskies carried their momentum in to the fifth set and used a match high .571 (5-2-15) team attack percentage in to close the set 15-8.
DePaul returns to the McGrath Arena Sunday for a match against St. John's at 2 p.m.
