Blue Demons Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons are looking forward to wearing special pink jerseys on Sunday in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"People on our team have family members who have battled breast cancer," said DePaul midfielder Callie Hemming. "Wearing that pink jersey is our way of showing support for such a great cause."
The BIG EAST Conference match against Seton Hall kicks off at 1 p.m., and the Wish Field at Cacciatore Stadium crowd will see a pair of teams battling for a berth in the BIG EAST Championship tournament.
Proceeds from the game and an online auction of the pink jerseys worn by the players will benefit the "Kicks Against Breast Cancer" national soccer initiative in its crusade to raise money in hopes of finding a cure. NCAA women's soccer teams around the country are holding similar events.
On Oct. 30, the DePaul volleyball team will hold a breast cancer awareness match against Conneticut at McGrath Arena.
"It's a shame that we haven't found a cure yet," said midfielder Lauren Pagone, who leads the Blue Demons with five goals. "Anytime people can show support for something so big in the world is just great.
"We will all wear those special jerseys with pride."
Pagone said Sunday's match puts life in perspective.
"It's tough and grueling going out there playing soccer for two hours," Pagone said. "But that's nothing compared to people who are battling breast cancer.
"For those people, every day is a struggle. The least we can do is wear the jerseys and show our support."
Hemming may have said it best of all.
"We're fighting for people who can't."
