
Blue Demons Fall to Wildcats

VILLANOVA, Pa.-The DePaul volleyball team dropped a BIG EAST Conference match to Villanova, 3-1 (25-14, 25-12, 24-26, 25-18). The Blue Demons fall to 4-24 (1-11, BIG EAST) while, the Wildcats improve to 21-6 (9-3 BIG EAST).
Molly Creek led the Blue Demons offensively with a .438 (9-2-16) attack percentage and Katherine Knutson continued to standout defensively, contributing 23 digs.
The first set began with the teams battling for points all the way to a 12-12 tie. Villanova would then go on a 13-2 run to take the first set 25-14.
In the second set Villanova utilized a .414 (15-3-29) attack percentage to control the tempo and win it 25-12.
After the break, DePaul grabbed the first four points of the third set. The Wildcats eventually tied it at eight. From there, the Blue Demons went on a 10-4 run that forced Villanova to use its first timeout. Villanova climbed back into the set and was able to tie it at 24. With the match on the line, Rachel Aumann delivered a powerful kill and then served, forcing the Wildcats to have a handling error. The Blue Demons won the set 26-24.
With the momentum on DePaul's side, the Blue Demons jumped out to an 8-6 lead the forced Villanova to take a quick timeout. After the timeout the teams continued to battle. With the set tied at 15 the Wildcats began a 10-3 run. Villanova won the set 25-18.
DePaul finishes up the regular season with a pair of BIG EAST matches next weekend.
Notes: Katherine Knutson has recorded double-digit digs in 23 matches... recorded 23 digs in the match against Villanova...
