Keisha Hampton Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul junior forward Keisha Hampton was selected as the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while Connecticut freshman guard Bria Hartley earned honors as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Hampton scored 27 points, 23 of which came in the final 20 minutes, to lead DePaul past No. 3/2 Stanford on Dec. 16. Hampton shot 57 percent from the field against Cardinal while it was the junior's sixth 20-point performance of the season and the 12th of her career. The Blue Demons' win over Stanford was DePaul's highest ranked win in 37 seasons.
Earlier in the week, Hampton tallied 11 points in DePaul's win over Northwestern which went along with a career-high six assists.
Hampton is averaging 17.0 points per game which ties for third in the BIG EAST, while the junior has started all 80 of DePaul's games since arriving in Lincoln Park in 2008-09.
Hampton becomes just the seventh DePaul player to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and the first since the 2007-08 season when Allie Quigley won the award twice and Deirdre Naughton earned the accolade once. Hampton was twice named the league's Rookie of the Week in 2008-09.
Hartley scored 13 points, dished out five assists and grabbed three rebounds in Connecticut's 81-50 victory against No. 11/10 Ohio State at the Maggie Dixon Classic in Madison Square Garden. Hartley was 5-of-10 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line as the Huskies recorded their 88th-straight win, tying the UCLA Division I men's record.
The Blue Demons return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 21 when they play at Arizona State at 7:30 (CST). The game can be seen live on Fox Sports Arizona with Daron Sutton and Hall of Famer Ann Meyers Drysdale calling the action.
