CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis team begins its 2010-11 season with Gia McKnight and Selma Salkovic ranked No. 31 in the Campbell's/ITA doubles rankings while Salkovic was selected to participate in the Rivera Women's All-American Tournament, Oct. 2-10 at the Rivera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
"It is nice to get National recognition in the preseason and it is going to be even more fun to earn those accolades throughout the year," head coach Mark Ardizzone said of his pair's early ranking.
"Selma's reputation as a dominate player has earned her respect around the country while Gia keeps on getting better and better each year."
Salkovic enters her senior season with 95 doubles victories, the most by any Blue Demon. Salkovic and her 2009-10 partner Anna Redecsi became the first DePaul pair to earn an at large berth to the NCAA Championship while the duo also advanced to the 16-team ITA Indoor Championship in 2009.
A strong singles player, Salkovic boasts a 70-34 career record and is coming off a 23-win season in 2009-10 including a 14-5 record in the No. 2 position. The senior becomes the fifth consecutive Blue Demon to represent DePaul at the All-American tournament.
Beatrix Csordas traveled to the All-American in 2005 and 2006, while Gergana Ganeva made the trek in both 06 and 07. Current Blue Demon assistant Dunja Antunovic also made a pair of appearance in 07 and 08. Salkovic follows Redecsi's appearance last season in singles action, while the pair went 1-1 in doubles play when they were invited as a tandem in 09.
The Blue Demons begin their 2010-11 campaign at the Sooner Invitational, Sept. 24-26 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
