Blue Demons Run Well at National Catholic Championship

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The DePaul men's and women's cross country team raced today in the 31st annual National Catholic Championship. The men's team finished in sixth and the women's team finished in fourth.
Matthew Graham lead the men's team and came in third place with a time of 24:28 in the 8k race. Graham's time is an improvement from last year's National Catholic Championship time of 24:53.9. Captain Luke Rygh provided leadership during the race and finished in 68th. Freshman Eddie McDanial was the second Blue Demon to cross the finish line and finished in 30th, Chris Miedema followed and finished in 60th, Max Clink finished in 64th, Luke Holt finished in 79th and Max Rodrigues finished 120th.
Toni Salvatore finished sixth with a time of 17:59 in the women's 5K race. This is the first time Salvatore has broken the 18 minute mark in a 5K. Freshman Kimberly ReMine ran well again and finish in 18th with a time of 18:28. Stephanie Hughes finished in 23rd, Mary Cate Quiett finished in 35th, Elena Sanz finished in 48th, Claire O'Brien finished in 62nd and Kelly Pickering finished in 65th.
The DePaul men scored 225 points, while the Fighting Irish won the meet with 35. On the women's side the Blue Demons posted 130 points and the Notre Dame women won the meet with 24.
Head Coach Patrick Savage commented, "We have two weeks of hard work ahead of us, to prepare ourselves for our next race in two weeks." Both teams return to action on Saturday Oct. 2 were they will race in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Beach in Chicago, Ill.
