CHICAGO - DePaul Hall of Famer David Booth is leaving the men's basketball program for a scouting position with the NBA's New Orleans Hornets. Booth has been at his alma mater since May 2009 as an assistant coach and most recently, the program's director of community, corporate and professional relations.
"As one of the DePaul greats, we're excited for David and a wish him nothing but the best," said head coach Oliver Purnell. "This is a great opportunity for him and we looked forward to working with him in the future."
With the Hornets, he will handle scouting for the northeast region. Booth returns to the NBA after serving as a southeast region scout for the Memphis Grizzlies for five years before joining the DePaul staff.
"It was a great experience being able to come back to DePaul and be part of the program," said Booth. It's something I'll always treasure. I'll still do whatever I can to help the program from afar. The Hornets offered me an opportunity that I really couldn't pass up getting back to the NBA."
As a player at DePaul, Booth is ranked among the program's top 10 in scoring, field goals, steals, free throws and blocked shots. His 1,933 career points are second in school history to Mark Aguirre while he is also ranked third all-time with 713 career field goals.
