The Volleyball Team lost to Illinois State

OXFORD, Ohio- The DePaul volleyball lost its final match of the Miami Best Western Invitational 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 13-25, 17-25) to Illinois State. DePaul falls to 1-11 and Illinois State improves to 11-3.
Illinois State started the first set scoring the first six points and forced DePaul to take a quick timeout. Out of the timeout Kyndell Highland would blast a kill to the back left corner to start a 5-0 run. The set would go back and forth, with each team earning every point that they got. DePaul called its second timeout with a 22-21 lead. Illinois State would come out of the break and win the set 25-23.
The back and forth play continued in the second set. In the second set there were 15 ties. At a 21-21 tie DePaul called a timeout. Out of the timeout Chelsea Kirkpatrick placed a kill in the back right corner and Kate Letcher had a service ace to give the Blue Demons a 23-21 lead. Illinois State would tie it again at 23 but DePaul held them off and closed the set on a kill from Genesis Reyes and a service ace from Kirkpatrick.
In the third set, Letcher would score first for the Blue Demons with a blast to the back right corner. In the beginning of the set the score stayed close. But with the score 10-9 in favor of Illinois state, the Cardinals started a 15-4 run to close the set out. Kirkpatrick contributed four kills in the third set.
DePaul took an early 6-2 lead in the fourth set. Illinois State then fired back a 15-2 run that was stopped by an Illinois State attack error. Soon after a kill from Sammy Gieger sparked a 7-2 run for the Blue Demons that took the score to 15-19. Illinois State again fired back and went on a 6-2 run to end the match.
The Blue Demons play Nothern Illinois on Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Dekalb, Ill.
