Blue Demons Battle Georgetown Right to the End

CHICAGO - These Blue Demons came out fighting on Sunday, looking to give their seniors a proper sendoff on Senior Day.
And despite coming up on the short end of a 2-0 result to Georgetown, all nine seniors will remember the way their teammates battled---right to the end.
There were players on both sides getting knocked to the ground and several came limping off the pitch as the DePaul seniors played their final match at Wish Field.
"I was proud of the way our players battled to the final whistle," said DePaul coach Erin Chastain. "They never stopped believing they could beat a good team like Georgetown.
"Our whole group played really hard for DePaul women's soccer and for our seniors."
They matched up favorably against Georgetown (13-5-0, 7-3-0 in the BIG EAST) in the first half, outshooting the Hoyas 3-2 over the first 45 minutes.
And, it was DePaul (3-13-1, 1-8-1) that came up with the best scoring chance before halftime on Ashleigh Goddard's header.
"Their goalkeeper (Elizabeth Hanna) made a great save on Ashleigh's chance," Chastain said. "We did a good job of creating other chances as well."
The Hoyas got on the scoreboard in the 53rd minute after Samantha Baker's 30-yard throw-in was deflected into the DePaul net by Kelly D'Ambrisi.
"We knew their big thrower would be dangerous," Chastain said. "We didn't do a good job of defending on that ball."
Georgetown added an insurance goal in the 58th minute when Daphne Corboz kicked a rebound into the far post.
"Even though we've had a disappointing season, these kids never gave up and left it all on the field today," Chastain said. "It shows a lot of character that our players came out and fought and believed they could win---no matter who we were playing.
"That fighting spirit will do wonders for us going forward as a soccer program."
The Blue Demons will bring that same attitude to Notre Dame on Friday for a season-ending 6:30 p.m. BIG EAST Conference match.
NOTES: DePaul limited Georgetown to 11 shots, and the Hoyas entered Wish Field on Sunday averaging more than 18 shots per game... the Blue Demons had seven shots with one on goal while Georgetown wound up with four shots on goal... Natasa Radosavljevic led DePaul with two shots on goal... Amber Paul, Morgan Celaya, Rebekah Roller, Goddard and Nina Kodros each had one shot... Goddard had the lone shot on goal... Georgetown outshot DePaul 9-4 in the second half... the Hoyas had a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
