Fargas and Mitrea Advance in ITA Doubles Bracket

COLUMBUS, Ohio - DePaul freshmen Patricia Fargas and Rebeca Mitrea dominated on the second day of ITA Midwest Regional at Ohio State's Varsity Tennis Center and Jesse Owens West Tennis Center. The freshman tandem reached the Round of 16 with two big doubles wins.
Fargas and Mitrea started their day with an 8-3 win over Amanda Cornell and Julia Fernandes from Detroit. With a limited time to regroup, the Blue Demon freshmen took to the court against the Notre Dame pair of Britney Sanders and Katherine White.
Fargas and Mitrea used an aggressive tempo and topped their BIG EAST Conference rivals 8-5 to move into the Round of 16. The Blue Demon pair will tangle with the Ohio State duo of Kara Cecil and Kelsey Dieters on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Carolin Neumann and Cali Gustafson along with Gia McKnight and Kelsey Lawson all lost their opening round doubles match. In the consolation doubles bracket, McKnight and Lawson topped the Notre Dame pair of Julie Sabacinski and JoHanna Manningham, 9-7.
In the consolation singles bracket, Gustafson and Mitrea both advanced. Gustafson defeated Brooke Dennis from IPFW 6-3, 6-2. Mitrea topped Detroit's Cornwell 6-4, 6-2.
The Main Singles Draw begins on Saturday with McKnight, Lawson and Fargas all competing.
